Don't Despise Humble Beginnings

In 1947, the Weir Brothers, Jack, Larry, and Bob sat anxiously in front of the Weir Garage in Encinitas.  Just across the 101, un-ridden Pacific waves met their end beneath the then new Self Realization Center at Swamis.  A radiator repair the week before had been met with no payment but instead a promise of something of equal value to the cost of repair.  When a pile of misshapen clay bricks was dropped in the yard behind the garage, light bulbs began to flare.  The brothers, opportunistic as they were, decided to work with what they were given.  They set out to build a house on a small plot of land nearby on Windsor Ave. in Cardiff.  After a few short months including countless arguments and improvisations, they had their first final product, a humble mud hut.

That first adobe was built to be a family home, a place where one of the brothers and their ever-expanding catholic families could lay down their heads at night.  But, as things tend to go with even the best-laid plans, things took a turn.  A few weeks before the completion of construction a fellow opportunist had swung by and expressed his appreciation for the house.  Paperwork was drawn up and the Weir Bros. had just created a new business for themselves, Adobe Home Construction.
